When the primer is dry, caulk all small joints (less than ¼-inch-wide) in the siding and trim. Most pros use siliconized acrylics—paint won't stick to straight silicones—but Guertin and O'Neil like the new, more expensive urethane acrylics for their greater flexibility and longevity. O'Neil stresses that it's shortsighted to skimp on caulk. "If the joint fails, you're back to square one." Guertin uses the lifetime rating as his quality guide. "I don't expect 35-year caulk will last 35 years, but it should last longer than a 15-year caulk."

Generally speaking, a gallon of paint will cover about 350 square feet. If this is the first time drywall is painted, it will soak up more paint. And remember to factor in whether your job will require one or two coats of paint. Dark and bright colors will require more coats of paint, as will painting a lighter color over an existing darker color. Divide the paintable wall surface by 350 to determine how many gallons of paint you will need to buy. If there’s an odd number with less than .5 leftover, round down, if it’s over .5 round up.
As the dance proceeds, keep an eye on the weather. Rain can wash freshly applied latex right off the wall, and a temperature dip below 50 degrees F two days after application can interfere with adhesion and curing and dull the sheen of glossy paints. (Latexes like Sherwin-Williams's Duration and Benjamin Moore's MoorGard Low Lustre are formulated to tolerate temps as low as 35 and 40 degrees, respectively.)

If you’re considering adding fresh paint to the exterior of your home or garage, don’t worry about vinyl siding: it can be painted! Be sure to start with clean, dry siding (this may require pressure washing and good weather). Or, you can wash the siding with soap and water instead. But the main thing is to start with a clean, dry surface so the paint won’t peel. Be sure to select a color for the paint that’s not darker than the existing vinyl color: a darker shade will allow the siding to heat up more than it was designed to withstand.
Paint made for the exterior of a house is formulated differently from that destined for interior paint jobs. Exterior house paint is blended to withstand rain, wind, and varying temperatures, while interior house paint is formulated to hide minor imperfections such as brush marks, handprints, and scuffs. Interior paints can be made washable for convenience, and doesn’t require exposure to light to cure.
If you can dream it, we can paint it, it’s that simple. Pick a color scheme, a style, or a trend and we will work with you to bring your dream to life. Every fresh coat of paint is a step towards transforming your home into the style you choose. Need inspiration? take a look at our exterior painting ideas as well as our interior painting ideas. "What started off as Fermin coming in for an estimate on spraying my kitchen cabinets white, this project turned into a much larger project of him offering his services for helping to remove a wall in between my living room/dining room, adding molding and painting entire downstairs and upstairs. I was in the process of getting multiple estimates for different projects and I am so pleased I went with Fermin for the entire job start to finish. Fermin and his team are reliable and responsible and did a fantastic job. I highly, highly recommend Ayala's Painting. Having just closed on a new home and wanting the job to be done right before moving in, he did just that and more. I am very pleased with his work and we are already thinking of future jobs for Fermin and his crew to perform once we move in. Side note - Fermin and his team are extremely caring, polite and considerate. They even helped move our trash cans back into the garage once the garbage pick up happened and even helped to move in packages that were delivered, all without asking. This example is the type of person Fermin is, and the crew he hires. Trustworthy and considerate. Looking forward to enjoying my new home updates and working with Fermin in the future!"

Small random-orbit or pad sanders make this job go faster. (Wallis first covers these boundaries with Synkoloid patching compound so no edge is visible after sanding.) As shown, you want to make sure that there is a feathered, smooth transition from exposed wood to old paint. For areas that might get close scrutiny, you can follow up with a 100- or 120-grit rubdown to erase any scratches.
